When we started Grain Traders we always knew, in our hearts, that it was never going to be just a one-off thing, and that our vision of feeding and treating people right would hopefully take us beyond just one space, and eventually, beyond our shores.

So it was with great anticipation that we finally opened our second branch at 100AM Mall in Tanjong Pagar on 22nd July. In response to everyone’s calls, Grain Traders at 100AM opens 7 days a week, which means you can enjoy all your favourite things to mix, eat, and love, even on the weekends. If you’ve seen on our Facebook and Instagram, we’ve been rolling out weekly weekend specials—so far, we’ve done a hearty Mutton Rendang with root vegetables and coconut gravy, as well as a Frittata with potatoes, caramelised onions, and roasted peppers.

But first, it took a lot of planning and the hard work of all our partners and collaborators to get the space up and ready. “The second Grain Traders outlet is about expanding on the things that people liked about the first one, and the things we wanted to try but didn’t get a chance to,” Ken, our co-founder and designer explains. “It’s about immersing people in the Grain Traders experience.”

Although the branch at 100AM serves the same, original menu that was first conceived at CapitaGreen, visitors to the space will notice some subtle changes. “What's different is a sense of maturity,” our founder Javier says. “There’s a bit of a progression from the first Grain Traders—our branding has changed, it’s a bit more fun.” We kept our multi-coloured, pastel walls but introduced the use of warmer, red-toned marble for tabletops. The iconic silo now takes a different shape and position, located over a long table by the entrance. We introduce a longer, bigger coffee area with bar seating, while low couches allow diners to sit back for a slow meal. We printed and hand-pasted our menu and posters, painting our signature ‘Mix, Eat, Love’ slogan over on the silo.

Beyond that, we did our best to maintain the same kind of experience that everyone has come to expect of and enjoy at Grain Traders. “The experience is as important as the food, and making sure that it's a step up and not a step down from the CapitaGreen outlet,” Ken says. “We’re here to build something that will hopefully transform the landscape of food, not just in Singapore, but around the world. We're a Singaporean brand, and we’re very proud to be Singaporean.”

On the cusp of our anniversary on 1st September, we cannot be more humbled and thankful for all the overwhelming support and love that has gotten us to where we are today. Our 100AM outlet marks only the beginning of greater and bigger things to come, and we are thrilled about the journey ahead.
